This section lists the state-wide associations from Indiana to Tri-State.  It then lists county associations from Boone to Illiana giving details about each one and what resources and publications they offer.

Statewide Societies

Indiana Genealogical Society

The society was established in 1989, their aim being to publish materials relating to the settlers of the state.

The association is in the process of indexing Indiana Marriages 1811-1959 in collaboration with FamilySearch.

Many publications are available, including:

  • 1890 Soldiers Enrolment Lists
  • Marion Co. World War I Military Deaths
  • Marriages and Deaths from Indianapolis Newspapers 1822-1829, 1830-1839 and 1840-1849
  • State-wide Indexes to 1890 Soldiers Enrolment Lists and 1880 DDD (Defective, Dependent, Delinquent) Schedules

A list of surnames currently being researched by members is also available.


North-West Indiana Genealogical Society

The association was established in 1970. Their aim is to preserve the history of Lake and Porter Counties.

Links to many resources are on their site, which includes Government Books, School Records, Land Office Records and Census Data.

The Society also has links to other websites you may find useful, such as other genealogical and historical societies.

An on-line index to Porter Co. Marriages 1921-1946 is accessible.

Numerous publications are sold by the society, which include:

Tri-State Genealogical Society

The association was established in 1977 and serves Southwest Indiana, Southeast Illinois and Western Kentucky.

County Societies

Elwood Pipecreek Genealogy Society

The society, established in 1996, serves Elwood, Pipecreek Township and Northern Madison County, Indiana.  

Numerous publications are available to purchase from the assocation including Cemetery Books relating to St Joseph Catholic, Elwood City, Sunset Memorial Park, Neese and Waymire Cemeteries.
