Statewide

Delaware Genealogical Society

The association was established in 1977 with 40 charter members and now has over 450 members.   They provide assistance to members researching their genealogy and also provide general educational programs.

They publish a journal and you are able to search through the Tables of Contents of these for all volumes up to April 2010.  A Master Index, which includes names and places mentioned, can also be accessed.

After you have determined which journal you are interested in, you can order the issue(s) from them.

The Parish Registers of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington have been microfilmed and the Society has prepared a list of which parishes are covered on each roll, so you can either rent or buy the appropriate microfilm through the LDS Family History Library or from Family History Centers.

Numerous publications are sold by the Society, which include:

  • 1782 Tax Assessment and Census Lists
  • DGS Research Guide
  • Genealogical Abstracts from Newspapers
  • History of the Original Settlements
  • Sussex County Orphans Court Abstracts

They also have information regarding the county of Delaware, including a list of hundreds and towns.
