Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies

The association was established in 1980.  The Society has a list of Member Associations on their site.  The association was very proud to host the National Genealogical Society’s conference in 1998.

Colorado Genealogical Society

The society was founded in 1924 and is the oldest in the state.  They publish a quarterly journal and a Subject Index to the first 70 volumes covering 1939-2009 is available to download from the site, as is a surname index for volumes 1 to 71, which covers 1939-2010.  

The society also publishes a quarterly newsletter and it is possible to peruse past issues covering August 2008 to November 2010.  

Many publications are available for sale, which include Arapahoe Co. 1885 State Census and The Colorado Genealogist Vol. 1-20 which includes surname indexes.

County Societies

Boulder Genealogical Society

You can peruse a list of Boulder Co. place names on the site.  They have also completed indexes to the Green Mountain Cemetery Interment Book covering 1904-2005 and the Boulder Daily Camera Obituary for 1960-1969 and 1970-1974 and these are available to purchase. 

They are in the process of compiling an index to Boulder Co. Pioneers and you are able to download the index covering 1803-1876.

Columbine Genealogical and Historical Society

Foothills Genealogical Society

The society was founded in 1980.  Their site contains:

  • County Records/Indexes for Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson and Park Counties
  • ilitary Records/Indexes

They also have School Records/Indexes for Jefferson County and Park County, along with Marriage Records for Park County. 

In addition, they have details of ongoing projects.  The society also has a six-monthly newsletter called The Foothills Enquirer and they have name and subject indexes to this publication from 1981-2010. 

You can also peruse the Foothills Enquirer Volumes 5-10 which covers 1985-1990.  Online indexes to several books and magazines are also accessible.

Larimer County Genealogical Society

The society was founded in 1974. 

The society has indexes to:

Longmont Genealogical Society

An on-line catalogue of books that the organisation have donated to Longmont Family History Center is on the site. 

They have an online index to Birth, Death and Marriages notices published in the Longmont Ledger Newspaper and an alphabetical index of the Longmont Voter Registration Records. There is also information about Cemeteries in Longmont.

Some of their members are willing to conduct genealogical research for a fee.

Mesa County Genealogical Society

The society was established in 1980.  The society has an extensive collection of resources which are accessible at Loyd Files Research Library which is located at the Museum of Western Colorado. 

An index of names from Mesa Co. Cemetery Records, and a list of surnames currently being researched by members can be accessed on their site.

Pikes Peak Genealogical Society

The association was founded in 1980.  From 1996 to 2002 members collected and transcribed tombstone and sexton record information from 71 cemeteries in the region of Pikes Peak. 

Over 84000 entries from cemeteries in El Paso and Teller Counties were transcribed and published in 11 books, and these books are now available on CD.

Weld County Genealogical Society

The association was established in 1973. A Master Index compiled from various sources is accessible, this having been indexed by surname.  They also have indexes to Weld Co. Directories and a list of newspapers published in Weld County. 

There is also a subject index to their quarterly newsletter.  They have also taken photographs of gravestones in Weld Co. Cemeteries and have indexed these by surname.
