Founded in 1979, Shropshire Family History Society aims to provide a meeting place for all those interested in genealogy, specifically in the county of Shropshire.  The group currently has approximately 1600 members worldwide.

Society Databases

Many online databases are accessible, which include:

  • Monumental Inscriptions – index consists of 9000 surnames compiled from 350 County Burial and Commemorative Sites
  • Shropshire Inns of 1828 – extracted from the Salop Directory 1828, published by Tibham and Co.
  • Strays – a list of 14000 names of people who were born in Shropshire but moved out of the county and turned up because they got married, appeared in court etc in places outside of Shropshire
  • War Dead – list of 800 names from 19 parishes, predominately in the Telford area
  • War Served: Surnames from 10 Pubic War Memorials
